They Keep Pumping them Out

The Great Movies keep on coming this time of the year. I will very quickly recommend The Squid and the Whale and King Kong. Noah Baumbachs The Squid and the Whale is a wonderfully told story about a family going through a divorce. If you liked Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou this is half of the brains behind it. It is playing in art houses now and should be out on video in a mont or two.

As for Peter Jackson's King Kong, enough has been said about that by other people but it is quite an event and it completely blew me away. Very suprisingly you sympathize for basically every character in the film, and any director will tell that is very difficult to acheive.
